240 GSM vs 280 GSM: what the weight changes
Two shirt types sit behind almost every House of Tees design. Both are cotton, both are printed by the same DTG process, and on a screen they look similar. Worn, they are not.

What 240 GSM actually means
GSM is grams per square metre: the weight of one square metre of the fabric. Arrive Guide 240 measures 240 GSM on a standard jersey knit, which puts it in the heavier half of everyday t-shirts. It holds a large back print without the cloth curling at the corners, and it keeps its shape through repeated washing better than a 160–180 GSM shirt. Arrive Guide 240 also carries the widest size range we stock: XS through 6XL.
What changes at 280 GSM
Arrive Guide 280 is 280 GSM compact Siro. Compact spinning removes more short fibres before the yarn is knitted, which produces a smoother, denser surface. In practice: less surface fuzz, a slightly drier hand-feel, and a print that sits with sharper edges because the ink has a flatter surface to bond to. It is noticeably heavier. Some people read that as premium; some read it as stiff on the first wear. It softens after two or three washes.
The trade-off nobody mentions
Arrive Guide 280 stops at 4XL. Arrive Guide 2316, the 205 GSM snow-wash, stops at 3XL. If you need 5XL or 6XL, the design has to be produced on Arrive Guide 240 — there is no alternative shirt type in the range for that size.
| Shirt type | Weight | Sizes | Surface |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arrive Guide 240 | 240 GSM | XS–6XL | standard jersey |
| Arrive Guide 280 | 280 GSM | XS–4XL | compact Siro |
| Arrive Guide 2316 | 205 GSM | S–3XL | snow-washed |
How to choose
If you want the widest size availability, take Arrive Guide 240. If you want the densest surface and you are 4XL or under, take Arrive Guide 280. If you want a deliberately worn, washed-out look, Arrive Guide 2316 is the only shirt type that gives it without printing tricks. Every product page names the shirt type it is produced on. If a size is not listed for a design, that shirt type cannot produce it.
